Prepping for an Art Exhibition

Carson Vexed

Hello, I will be at pancakes and booze tomorrow night!I the Detroit show is taking place at the Tangent gallery February 16th! Last year was so much fun and I can't wait to do it again! I ran into some friends, met some really cool creators, plus they had pancakes!

Recently I have been prepping for this art show so that means finishing projects, getting them framed, scanned and printed. Also I will be selling prints! I had to make some nice copies of my work, sign them, pack them in plastic sleeves, get a bin to separate them.

I'm really excited because I have improved so much since I did this exact show last year, I'm so proud of how far I've come.

How to prep for an art show

when It come to prepping for an art show there are some things I learned from last year going into this year that have stepped my game up and there's even more that I will do for my next event here's some advice

1) Have Finished Work

This means, your piece is framed or matted. if it is a fabric your edges are finished that could mean crisp hems or you intentionally pull the threads loose. for canvas you paint the edges too

2) Protect Your Prints (if you are allowed to sell prints)

Such as putting my prints in plastic sleeves. or giving them a bag after purchasing. last year I didn't and it poured, not only that peoples hands tend to sweat and there is always the risk of ruining it that way or even just tearing it on accident. The plastic helps minimize the possibility of it getting damaged

3) Bring Your Own Tools!!

I don't care if they say they will provided some for you, Trust me when I say there will NOT be enough for everyone. Check what they say you can bring for this event I'm allowed to Brin a drill gun and screws to hang my piece. nails and hammers are not allowed.

What you need :

-screws

-drill gun

-a level

-tape

-a step stool - (they caught me lacking last year)

Make sure you have a Label to go with each piece

Here's what to include on you label :

the name of your piece

your name or the name you go create under

the material- (digital, paint, charcoal, collage, etc)

and if the piece is for sale

Don't forget to talk to people! These are other creators in your area attending the same events as you! there is a good chance you could become really good friends, you might make similar work or totally different but you could learn a lot from one another. Connecting with other creators is my favorite part about the show!

anyways that's all my advice for now, maybe I will update this with more after the show
